Psalm 46
For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According toalamoth. A song.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah
8 Come and see the works of the Lord ,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with
fire.
10 "Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means.
Luke 13
10On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 11and
a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was
bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12When Jesus saw her,
he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are set free from your
infirmity." 13Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she
straightened up and praised God.
14Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue
ruler said to the people, "There are six days for work. So come and be healed on
those days, not on the Sabbath."
15The Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Doesn't each of you on the
Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water?
16Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has
kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what
bound her?"
17When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the
people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.
Matthew 14
22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on
ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23After
he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When
evening came, he was there alone, 24but the boat was already a
considerable distance[1] from
land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them,
walking on the lake. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the
lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.
27But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't
be afraid."
28"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the
water."
29"Come," he said.
30Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came
toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink,
cried out, "Lord, save me!"
31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of
little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"
32And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33Then
those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of
God."
34When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35And
when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the
surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36and
begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched
him were healed.
17The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him.
